Sick of the same old pentatonic rock licks? Try these...

Let's start by adding notes from the blues scale and dorian mode into the minor pentatonic scale pattern. This is an easy tool for breathing new life into thos overused pentatonic rock licks we all play!

Lick 1: Learn this cool lick using the dorian mode and blues scale notes, similar to licks played by Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde and others.

Lick 2: Here's a cool bluesy double stop lick. It's the kind of thing Slash or Zakk Wylde might play. A little palm muting sets up the lick nicely!

Lick 3 and 4: Repeating rock licks. Here we're going to use the dorian blues scale to transform some common repeating rock licks.

Lick 5: By adding in a pinky stretch you can extend the shape and reach higher up the neck for a fast stretch lick.

Have fun experimenting with these added notes. With a little practice you can soon be creating awesome new pentatonic rock licks of your own.
